OGDEN, Utah -- A year ago this week, Northern Colorado men's basketball coach B.J. Hill was busy having T-shirts made at a local screen-print shop that displayed only a big "6th" on the front and nothing on the back.
That was the lowest spot (sixth) Hill could find Northern Colorado listed last season among the plethora of college basketball preseason publications, and, in Hill's mind, that number and those plain, white T's were the perfect motivator for a team full of seniors who had worked hard to transform the Bears into a top-notch program but were still getting little love from the prognosticators.
But this October, just seven months removed from the Bears' historic and memorable march to last year's NCAA Tournament, Hill's going to have to find another way to light a fire within his program.
The Big Sky Conference released its annual preseason media and coaches polls Wednesday afternoon, and Northern Colorado, which finished 21-11 and 13-3 in league games last season, was picked to come in third in the media survey, with one first-place vote, and fourth in the coaches poll.
SGA funds freebies and more
Monday night Missouri Western Student Government Association heard from several campus departments before passing nearly $9,000 in legislation.
Missouri Western Student Government Association passed several notices of action to spend some money during their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10. Some of that money will provide Western students with the opportunity to get some free gear. SGA agreed to spend $4,551.25 on shirts and rally towels to be handed out at football games in the near future.
As Senate members offered lower cost alternatives to some of the legislation being discussed, Student Governor Peter Gregory made a case for the expenditure of $2,051.25 for purchasing 547 T-shirts.
“There are two things that students love most,” Gregory said. “Does anyone know what they are? T-shirts and free food.”
Gregory went on to say that the cost per shirt was a good deal and that the shirts could be given out at future events, if there were any leftover following the Homecoming Tailgate.

Still scoreless as we head to the bottom of the fourth, and the Busch Stadium people do that thing where they slingshot T-shirts at people. by Daniel Barbarisi Aww, no more perfect game. Jaime Garcia just walked Ian Kinsler. OK, I'm going home,
Founded by a Chicago missionary named Andrew Marin, participants go to gay events to seek forgiveness for the church's history of homophobia, wearing T-shirts that say, “I'm Sorry. Love Is an Orientation.” Smid is still praying over what to write on
We've always been accepting of the fact that Simon Cowell and his too-tight T-shirts are probably taking over the world. But now that he's squeezed our fave new TV heroine Zooey Deschanel out of her timeslot? We might just have to do a slow-mo chicken
