Students show off new fashion at “It's a Fashion Affair”
Students were greeted Monday by a red carpet while entering the Black Student Association’s sixth annual fashion show, “It’s a Fashion Affair.”
More than 200 people attended the show and saw models, students from UTA and other universities, strutting along to upbeat music down a runway sporting eight different designers’ latest fashion designs.
Undeclared freshman Briuna Davis said this was her first time at the fashion show.
“I really enjoyed the show and will definitely be coming again,” she said. “I liked all the different types of clothes that were featured.”
The variety of clothing ranged from modern wear, including formal and business wear, to traditional Caribbean wear, like beaded bathing suits and head pieces.
Geo’s Collection designer George Killingsworth said he designs his clothes for them to be noticed by consumers.
“I want my clothes to be taken off the shelf immediately,” he said. “My designs range from casual to vogue for men and women, and that is what makes them different from others.
Halloween How To: Boston Edition
Lobster:
With the right creative eye, you can turn a stack of red solo cups into your very own lobster costume– and it’s cheap! Start with some basic red items: T-shirt, beanie and sweats or leggings. Next, glue together stacks of cups to create your lobster arms and attach them to the sides of your shirt. Use red solo plates to create a scaly tail off the back end of your shirt, too! And don’t forget to attach some ping pong ball eyes to your beanie. Instructables also has a “ Sexy Lobster ” tutorial, but I’ll let you figure that one out on your own.
MBTA Train/The Citgo Sign/The Green monster (the wall, not the mascot):
At first glance, you might not necessarily find the connection among those three items, but there is one: “ the cardboard box costume .” Raid your building’s recycle dumpster, cut the top and bottom out of a large-ish box, and fashion some straps to that bad boy. Next, paint and decorate it as your costume of choice. You could even get jazzy and add some reflective tape to serve as your T stripes, Citgo neon or monster scores, respectively. Or you could just be a box.

The crowd enjoyed itself, and not just when booing Rondo – for being a Celtic more so than his neon yellow sneakers. It was a good show with good fun for a good cause. But we're well into October. It's getting good and late for all this.
