Dog doesn't like Halloween costume? Accessorize!
If a dog is used to wearing clothes, costumes may not be a problem, said veterinarian Terry Marie Curtis, a clinical behaviorist for the Department of Small Animal Clinical Services at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dogs accustomed to wearing snug items designed to calm anxiety — like Thundershirts, Anxiety Wraps or Storm Defender Capes — should be able to adjust to other types of clothing, she said.

Some dogs are used to booties, though, either because they live where the ground gets very hot or cold, or they are carried most of the time. "The smaller pocket pups are more likely to have 'dress up' in their experience because that's what mom has done since puppyhood," Curtis said.
County youths think inside the box to help communities

It was on full display Friday afternoon on the faces of excited elementary school children and teenagers who set up temporary quarters at the annual Kids in a Box event at Tracy's St. Bernard's Catholic School to benefit McHenry House family shelter.
There were prizes to be awarded for the three best-decorated houses and the quartet of Jeannette Arrabit, a 17-year-old Tracy High senior, 16-year-old juniors Katrina Bruder and Bobbie Bertken and freshman Travis Roberts were in the running with their barn-looking home, complete with a pitched roof, red paint job and white picket fence, all a nod to their roots in the Jefferson 4H Club. Bobbie Loggins, Noelle Corbett and Gabby Castro, 13-year-old eighth-graders at St. Bernard's, were also competing with a beach/sea-themed structure they'd spent two weeks constructing around a PCP pipe frame assembled by Loggins' grandfather, Bob Loggins.
