Group moving ahead with dog park in Bellevue
A grass-roots effort to open a dog park by spring in Bellevue Memorial Park in Ross has a leg up, thanks to donations of money and effort by volunteers. Excavation of the spot for the dogs-only area called Bellevue Dog Woods is under way atop what old-timers know as "Fireworks Hill," and volunteers will install fencing.
"We're hoping to put some fences up in the next month or so," said Bellevue Mayor George Doscher, one of about a dozen residents from Bellevue, Ross and other communities working on the project. They are creating a nonprofit entity specifically for the dog park, which is not spearheaded by Bellevue's government but by dog lovers in the area.
Mr. Doscher said many residents from outside the borough have donated funds for the dog park, which will be in Ross. The grassroots group needs $8,000 for fencing, and most of that amount has been obtained. But about $10,000 more is needed for the pup-centric park, which will occupy a space that until recently was a spot where borough workers had deposited old street bricks and other building materials.
